Future Shock!

In 1972, a documentary was made based on Alvin Toffler’s book, Future Shock. The presence of Orson Welles as the host of the series, added some gravitas. In retrospect, some parts of the program are amusing, just as the response to Welle’s 1938 “War of the Worlds” radio drama seems amusing–until you think about society’s forebodings of imminent war at that time. I think the 1972 film also registers the anxieties of the time (“too much change in too short a period of time” — Toffler), and how it will change us.
