A Note on Book Trailers

I’ve been scanning a few book trailers, and I tell you, it’s sad out there. There are great book trailers, but it’s obvious that they have major publisher backing. Trailers for self-published books are generally not so good, to pathetic. Tempting to post some of the bad ones here, but I don’t want to embarass anyone.

So far, the biggest problem I’ve noticed is lousy acting and lousy, cliche narration. Often, a DIY trailer using photo stills, text, and music will be almost getting it right — until the narrator comes on, and the whole thing suddenly takes a dive — and then they usually go on too long. Cut it off at 30 seconds, please!

I’m on the hunt for a good DIY trailer. Stay tuned…
